Fairytale of New York - A4 Riso Print - Limited Run
€5/50kr from each print will be donated to The Simon Community Charity in Ireland who work with homelessness.
A new plaque has popped up in Malmö this week, one commemorating the fact that it was in Malmö that Shane McGowan began writing Fairytale of New York.
The local press sprung into action on Monday and a hive of activity has surrounded the unveiling of the plaque outside the Hotell Temperance, where the song wasn't written. It was actually from his sick bed at the hospital in Malmö that Shane began writing the lyrics. The Pogues were due to play at the famous KB venue in Malmö. However there would be no Shane in the lineup. It would instead fall to none other than Elvis Costello (Cate O’Riordan´s then partner) to take to the stage with the rest of the Pogues.
For his part, Shane had been rushed to the hospital, suffering from a double lung inflammation. While recovering, the writing began to create the greatest ever Christmas song.
